ATMO is a way of perceiving rooted in presence, where sound, form, light, and space lose their boundaries, offering the possibility of experiencing them as a continuous whole.
My work takes form through this way of perceiving,
allowing it to be experienced as such.
Artist Statement
My story lives within my work. It has been shaped at the intersection of different cultures, times, and places.
We differ through our experiences, memories, and circumstances. Yet beyond these differences there is one living whole, where separation is only an appearance. Through my work, I try to make this sense of wholeness tangible and shift our attention from the temporary toward the timeless.
My practice is rooted in the idea of life as a game. I explore this space from the perspective of an observer: through the search for inner stillness amid external noise, through the experience of wholeness in a world that appears divided, and through the search for inner balance and anchor within constant change.
Freedom is essential to me—in my artistic practice, in life, and in allowing each work to discover its own form. Each work develops as a living process, allowing its meaning to emerge naturally.
The result becomes a "space within space", where material, form, and perception come together as one experience.
Material plays an active role in my practice. I combine different media, techniques, and forms of expression, allowing each work to discover its own language. An initial idea provides direction, but its form continues to evolve through an ongoing dialogue with material and space.
I am most interested in the moment when a work begins to live a life of its own and reveals something that could never have been anticipated.
My studies at the Art Department of the University of Erfurt and later at Bauhaus University Weimar became an important part of the development of my artistic practice, encouraging me to work experimentally across different media and forms of expression.
Working across drawing, painting, textile, installation, video, photography, ceramics, product design, and other disciplines gave me the freedom to let each idea find its own form of expression.
This approach continues to shape my practice today. Each idea naturally finds its own medium, allowing me to move between artistic disciplines and design without boundaries.
My practice also extends to the design of open-baffle loudspeaker systems for DIAGRAMMaudio®, where my interest in space, perception, and atmosphere finds a new form of expression.
Sound as Space
Encountering the sound of a dipole loudspeaker with an open-baffle design for the first time, I experienced something new and deeply moving. Sound was not perceived as something emitted from an object, but as something freely existing within space itself—as if the air itself were sounding.
This experience deeply affected me and became the impulse to begin working on the design of loudspeaker systems. It allowed me to realize my desire to create spaces that invite immersion and evoke a sense of openness, spaciousness, freedom, and the absence of boundaries—even within the presence of physical walls.
Working on the design of these systems became a way of giving form to this experience. For me, it is important to translate the spatial, free, and living character of open-baffle sound into visual form. In my view, the visual appearance of a loudspeaker sounds together with the system through its visual presence, becoming an essential part of the spatial experience.
I express the tactile, tangible quality of open-baffle sound through a visually alive design language. This is why I use elements resembling an open eye, together with other tactile visual gestures. I create each pair of loudspeakers individually and entirely by hand, as an art object. ❤️
